Ruth J. Abram

01-rabramAn activist turned historian, Ms. Abram has graduate degrees in social welfare and American history and has pioneered the use of history to address social issues. In 1988, Ms. Abram founded the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, determining that the institution’s mission would be to “promote tolerance and historical perspective through the presentation and interpretation of varied immigrant experiences on the Lower East Side, a gateway to America.” Her work at the Tenement Museum has been widely covered in the media including The New York Times, World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, and a PBS series on the history of New York.
