The Goli otok “Ante Zemljar” Association Zagreb was founded in 1991 by former prisoners of Goli otok. Today, it brings together members of their families, friends of deceased prisoners, researchers, artists, and citizens committed to preserving the memory of Goli otok and Sveti Grgur.

The Association works to inform the public, protect the site, encourage public dialogue, and develop a culture of remembrance, with the aim of ensuring that Goli otok is recognised, protected, and presented with dignity as a site of political repression and human rights violations.

They advocate for Goli otok to be declared a memorial site and for its future development as a place of knowledge, remembrance, and responsible engagement with the past.
