National Public Housing Museum (USA)

The National Public Housing Museum preserves, promotes and propels the right of all Americans to a place where they can live and prosper—a place to call home.

It is the first cultural institution in the United States dedicated to interpreting the American experience in public housing. Located in the last remaining building of the Jane Addams Homes, one of Chicago’s first public housing communities, the museum draws on the power of place and memory to illuminate the resilience of poor and working-class families of every race and ethnicity to realize the promise of America. As a Site of Conscience, the museum presents recreated apartments, immersive exhibitions, art, and transformative programs that connect public housing history with contemporary issues of social justice and human rights.
