Learn how individuals and organizations around the world activate historic sites as new forums for citizen engagement in contemporary issues. Explore practical tools and resources developed by established and new museums in a wide variety of cultural and political contexts.

Program and Evaluation Models

Our program designs help visitors draw connections between the past and the present, using the stories of what happened at a site to inspire new conversation and action about its legacies. Develop your own civic engagement projects through exhibit devices, dialogue techniques and evaluation tools from successful museums and historic sites around the world. Regional Networks

Members build local groups of Sites of Conscience who collaborate to remember similar histories and address common contemporary issues. Our current Regional Networks are:

• Asian Sites of Conscience: Promoting Cultures of Peace and Pluralism in the Wake of Ethnic and Religious Conflict
• African Sites of Conscience: Using Histories of Citizen Action to Develop Post-Colonial and Post-Conflict Democracies
• Russian Sites of Conscience: Building an Anti-Totalitarian Culture
• South American Sites of Conscience: Promoting Debate through the Construction of Memory of the Recent Past
