Stowe Center for Literary Activism (USA)

Best-selling American anti-slavery author Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin, perhaps the most influential novel of the 19th century. Her powerful words inspired many to stand against slavery and injustice.

The Stowe Center for Literary Activism’s mission is to encourage social justice and literary activism by exploring the legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe and all who advocate hope and freedom then and now. Our vision is a world in which engagement leads to empathy, empowerment, and change for good.

Through its programs and initiatives, the Stowe Center empowers individuals to draw connections between the issues of Stowe’s era and the ongoing challenges of race relations, class and gender equity, economic justice, and access to education today.
