The Kubota Garden Foundation supports, enhances, and preserves Kubota Garden in the spirit and vision of its creator, Fujitaro Kubota, a Japanese immigrant to the United States. Working in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, the Foundation helps ensure this historic Japanese garden remains a free, welcoming, and culturally vibrant public space and sustains the legacy and history of the Kubota family, including their experience of incarceration during WW2.

Their vision is for Kubota Garden to remain a place of beauty, respite, and connection for generations to come. Founded by Japanese immigrant Fujitaro Kubota, who transformed swampland into a living work of art beginning in 1927, the Garden reflects resilience, creativity, and cross-cultural understanding.

Grounded in Japanese culture and guided by values of community, equity, and stewardship, the Foundation brings people together through cultural programming, education, volunteer engagement, and advocacy. We remove barriers to access through free and low-cost programs while planning thoughtfully for increasing visitation and protecting the Garden’s historic landscape.
