Amani na Maendeleo kwa Wote “AMW”, is a swahili name meaning “Peace and Development for All,” is a refugee-led grassroots organization founded by leaders from refugee communities in Burundi. AMW works with refugees, host communities, and marginalized populations to strengthen their dignity, resilience, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence. Its mission is to design and implement participatory, inclusive, and conflict-sensitive programs in the areas of protection, sustainable livelihoods, education, and social cohesion.
AMW’s interventions include community dialogue, mediation and reconciliation, support to vulnerable populations, sustainable livelihoods and agro-pastoral development, environmental protection, and humanitarian crisis response. Community participation, human dignity, peace and social cohesion, equity, and accountability are central to its approach.
AMW is particularly committed to ensuring that affected communities are not viewed solely as beneficiaries, but as active and meaningful actors in identifying their needs and challenges and shaping solutions that affect their lives. This community-led approach also provides a foundation for documenting experiences of displacement, preserving and strengthening collective memory, fostering dialogue, and transforming difficult experiences into opportunities for dignity, peace, and social cohesion.
