James Madison’s Montpelier

James Madison’s Montpelier inspires public engagement with American constitutional self-government by bringing to life the home and contributions of James and Dolley Madison.

Montpelier promotes ongoing public understanding of Madison’s contributions to American history and the creation of the U.S. Constitution, the role of constitutionalism in other countries, and constitutional literacy. It achieves this by exploring American identities through the life experiences of Montpelier’s residents and through stewardship of authentic buildings, sites, objects, artifacts, ideas, and documents for the public.
