Dialogues for Democracy Program

The Workhouse, along with all Coalition member sites, has designed a program called Dialogues for Democracy. The Dialogues for Democracy help visitors draw connections between the past and the present by using the histories of the sites to inspire new conversations and action on pressing contemporary issues.

Other Programs

The Workhouse strives to improve understanding of the lives of a large and currently overlooked underclass; one which, perversely, existed over the century during which Britain achieved the pinnacle of its power and prestige in the world.

Oral History
The documentary research has included creating an oral history archive of remembrances of 20th century inmates and ex-staff of The Workhouse.

Archaeology
Since the National Trust acquired The Workhouse, extensive archaeological research has been undertaken, including surveys of the building and garden.

Raising Public Consciousness
The Workhouse presents interpretive events and educational programmes to bring the story of The Workhouse to life for visitors of all ages.
