Memoria Abierta
Memoria Abierta, a coordinated action of Argentine human rights organizations, works to promote knowledge and social awareness of State terrorism.
One of our primary objectives is to ensure that any records of the events that occurred during the last military dictatorship and their consequences are accessible for research and education of future generations.
The organizations that are part of this joint action are:
- Asamblea Permanente por los Derechos Humanos [Permanent Human Rights Assembly] (APDH)
- Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales [Center for Legal and Social Studies] (CELS)
- Fundación Memoria Histórica y Social Argentina [Argentine Historical and Social Memory Foundation]
- Madres de Plaza de Mayo – Línea Fundadora [Madres de Plaza de Mayo - Founding Line] and
- Servicio Paz y Justicia [Peace and Justice Service].
State terrorism is a system of political domination based on the spreading of terror in society. It is characterized by a systematic and massive criminally repressive policy, implemented by the State agencies.
Mission
Memoria Abierta’s mission is to preserve the memory of what occurred during the period of state terrorism and its effects throughout Argentine society, in order to:
- Enrich democratic culture
- Promote a social conscience that values active memory, and its incorporation into Argentine political culture
- Contribute to the construction of a collective identity
- Consolidate and strengthen democracy
- Prevent all forms of authoritarianism
