Girls Leadership Workshop

The Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill chose as one of its highest priorities to develop a leadership training program for high school girls, focusing on Eleanor Roosevelt as a role model. The Girls Leadership Workshop has been highly successful in developing self-esteem, confidence, self-definition, and leadership skills as well as social consciousness and commitment to citizenship in the participants.

“I was first introduced to the arena of politics when I attended my session of the Girls Leadership Workshop in 2000… I am most concerned about the unseen and unheard voices in American government today, the poor. They are the unheard majority. Not many want to become advocates of the poor. …I am hoping that with the continuation of my education I can help restore my community and others like it to bring new and positive examples for youth to follow…”
Kalima Elizabeth Roberts

“The ten days I spent at Val Kill last summer…was an amazing experience. Coming from a small school in Tokyo it was a privilege to meet so many motivated, open, and talented young women from around America and the Caribbean…Looking back this school year I know what I accomplished this year had a lot to do with the strong message of Eleanor Roosevelt and the many young women who I met at Girls Leadership Workshop…In a world of war, poverty and hate I am sure, in our own ways, we will stand-up for peace we believe in and change the world for the better.”
Megumi Kanada

“My name is Jaclyn Wagner and I am a true graduate of the Girls Leadership Workshop program. I went in with potential and I came out ready to use it…”
